Ric Mathis

Ric Mathis is an independent visual storyteller adept in areas of photojournalism and video production. As a former attendee of Fort Valley State University and alumnus of Georgia State University, he acquired an educational background in music management and marketing. His appreciation for the artistic craftsmanship of lyricists led to his first visual production entitled “Word”, which featured The Last Poets, Cee-Lo Green, Sonya Sanchez, Amiri Baraka, and more.

Ric Mathis is very passionate about giving back to the community. He has a history of over 10 years of working closely with the Atlanta Department of Education, agencies and social service organizations to insure community involvement and knowledge of community resources for various individuals served. He has taught therapeutic activities and provide family and individual counseling. Developed plans of action for families to address issues through coping strategy incorporation and family conferencing mediation. He has also created partnerships with community/youth based organizations to provide assistance to families. Advocate with human service/health organizations, courts/judicial system and other various companies and agencies. Conduct educational groups with juvenile offenders/parents to assist committed youth with re-entry and basic life skills training. To help ensure that we leave a Lasting Legacy in the cummunity.

Mathis has been involved in photo documentary projects and video journalism projects for over 10 years. His reel includes works produced from original concepts, research, field interviews, shooting, editing and producing. As a seasoned video journalist and multimedia producer, Mathis is best known for his contributions to Atlanta-based publication, Rolling Out Magazine. His expertise and professionalism have provided him with exclusive access to industry soirées in the heart of Atlanta as well as opportunities abroad as far as Egypt. “It’s about having focus, discipline, and patience to get to where you are going”, Ric says. “We live in an age of independence where you can take an idea and create a well-produced concept. You just have to make it relatable to the people.”

Recently, he has garnered attention as executive director of the provocative documentary “Black Friday: What Legacy Will You Leave?” The documentary explores why African Americans have consistently remained in the lowest percentile of America’s wealth gap, while also presenting insight on how to restore the circulation of wealth in Black communities. In addition, he has received praise for his video concepts for national and global brands such as Wal-Mart, Bigen, Pepsi, Essence Music Festival, 100 Black Men, Big Brothers & Sisters, and Home Dept. He looks forward to showcasing his creative talents in the realm of documentaries, reality shows, and movies.
